About the Wine

Monticello Estate Has Opened Up the Vault to Release Some Truly Coveted Vintages on a Number of Their Iconic Wines.
I got the privilege of tasting through the available vintages, and the 2000 was standing proud among the crowd!

In 1969, Jay Corley came to the Napa Valley in search of land to handcraft exceptional wines. He acquired a Prohibition-era prune orchard and established Monticello in 1970. Today Monticello remains dedicated to Jay’s original vision and continues to create award-winning, estate-grown wines of singular quality and distinction. From planting and pruning to harvest and crush, from barrel to bottle, Monticello handcrafts its wines in small batches, devoting meticulous care to every step of the winemaking journey to produce fine wines that enrich life.

Considered One Of Napa's Finest Vintages

The 21st century in the Napa Valley began with a virtually picture perfect growing season. The almost uneventful spring and summer weather pattern, every grower's dream, produced fruit of exceptional quality. A cool, even growing season throughout. The slightly cooler days in September gave the grapes extra time to hang and reach a greater physiological ripeness.  The wines immediately exhibited fully developed flavors and excellent color.

Tasting Notes:

Monticello's Flagship wine - CORLEY RESERVE Cabernet Sauvignon. Utilizing the strengths of each of their cabernet sauvignon vineyards in Rutherford, Yountville and St Helena giving the luxury of three of Napa Valley's premier Cabernet Sauvignon growing areas. to produce full, rich and complex Cabernet Sauvignon wine. Luscious, powerful and richly textured the CORLEY RESERVE is full-bodied and while ready to drink is also a wine that stands the test of time. Aromatics of juicy red fruits, toasty sweet oak and hints of vanilla. Flavors follow similarly, most notably rich berry pie as the wine opens up. This wine once again shows nice consistency and balance throughout the entire experience – from the aromatics through to the finish. The mouthfeel is rich in texture and the finish sails on framed by firm but velvety tannins, one of the hallmarks of Monticello Winery.
