Howell Mountain Vineyards hand crafts its wines from its estate vineyard, the Beatty Ranch. Utilizing all varietals grown on the property (Zinfandel, Primitivo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Vedot) with their two main wines being Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. The source of the Zinfandel comes from vines that were planted at the turn of the 20th century, while the Cabernet Sauvignon vines are over 40 years old. Both the Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon vines are some of the oldest of their kind on the mountain producing exceptional old vine Howell Mountain wines.
TASTING NOTES:
Grapes derived from 100+ year-old vines that are truly proud to be a Zinfandel, as it leaps from the glass with heady aromas of wild raspberries, black plum, cherry cola, baking spices, cloves, and cracked pepper. A medium bodied wine with bright acidity and dusty tannins proving dilectable aging potential as this Zinfandel blossoms with ample time in the glass - gathering palate weight and rounding out seamlessly. Enjoy now with at least a 30-minute decant, or lay it down and enjoy over the next decade.
