About the Wine
Myles’ parents, Carleton Briggs and Lisa Lawrence, purchased this site in 1988. Located just outside of Occidental, this site neighbors Charles Heintz Vineyard to the west and is home to the original Chardonnay planting in the West Sonoma Coast. It has since been replanted to Pinot Noir. Grapes have been sold to Littorai, Flowers, Gary Farrell and Rivers-Marie.
- 2 acres Pinot noir (Calera, 828, Swan & 115) planted in 2005

- Sustainably farmed by Valdez & Sons Vineyard Management
Vintage
Many are hailing the 2018 vintage as a return to “normal” as the vintage was comparatively calm, cool, and late. The year began with a relatively warm February before giving way to a cold spring and moderate growing conditions throughout the season. The moderate temperatures continued into harvest allowing for full phenolic ripeness to develop and the luxury
of picking the grapes when they were mature rather than trying to beat the heat.
Vineyard
The Hillcrest estate sits atop a hill rooted in shallow, rocky soil receiving excellent sunlight and is immersed by fog nearly every evening. A mere 10 miles from the ocean, the grapes from this site tend to have moderate acidity, approachable fruitiness, and excellent aromatics.
Tasting Notes
The Senses 2018 Day One Pinot Noir has a medium ruby-purple color. It waltzes out with flamboyant notes of raspberry pie, Bing cherries, and red roses, followed by wafts of lavender, cardamom, and forest floor. The medium-bodied palate bursts with vibrant red berry, floral, and savory layers, framed by exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and amazing tension, finishing with epic length and energy. So elegant and perfumed, this one could fool you into thinking it is a great Chambolle-Musigny
