Matteo Corregia's plan is about creating wines which are worthy of taking the name of Roero around the world, enhancing the terroir, which was underestimated until that time. He will succeed with Roche d’Ampsej, the first Roero denomination wine to fly overseas. His Revolutionary work received much notorioty from top producers like Elio Altare and Roberto Voerzio.
I just wanted to put this great bottle on your radar — the 2019 Matteo Correggia Roero Riserva Ròche d’Ampsèj. This Nebbiolo from Roero really punches above its weight and price!
Here’s a quick look:
Coming from the “Roche d’Ampsej” vineyard, Corregia's "daimond in the rough". The bricco on which the vineyard extends is wedged for a good part in the Rocche area, whose most significant botanical characteristic is the presence of Scots pine, historically suited to agriculture. The vineyard extends from east to southwest at an altitude of 280-315 meters above sea level, with soils rich in fine and coarse sand, enriched with clay.
It is a wine that reminds me of the ability to dream, to go beyond appearances, to grasp what is not yet, but could become. The first time Matteo saw the vineyard it was unrecognizable, abandoned, uncultivated, forgotten for years, for decades. Through his hard work he restored it to a beautiful, lush, productive landscape full of bunches of Nebbiolo kissed by the sun.

An intense ruby red wine with garnet reflections. To the nose it releases slight floral aromas of rose and cyclamen, accompanied by pleasantly fruity and spicy notes. The taste is soft and voluminous, supported by a thick tannic texture and a pulpy and persistent consistency. A Nebbiolo that can be enjoyed now, but with the ability to age for decades!
