About the Wine

The geological kaleidoscope of the soils and the abundance of the clonal biodiversity of Sangiovese combine to make Poggio di Sotto unique in the Montalcino panorama.

2019 was a perfect year, both in terms of climate and production. Together with 2016, it represents one of the iconic years, in which Sangiovese in Montalcino expressed its maximum potential. The harvest took place in the “classic” times, from the beginning of September to the first ten days of October. As always, the parcelling out of the harvest was obsessive, which allowed them to obtain wines of certain longevity, still very young and fresh after the long aging in barrels.

TASTING NOTES:
Poggio di Sotto 2019 Brunello di Montalcino hits all the high notes of Sangiovese. This is a wine of enormous inner tension, showing a punchy, lifted personality with aromas of cherry skin and blackberry. You get brandied cherry, strawberry glazed pie with the gelatin, underbrush, blue flower, forget-me-nots, balsam herb, mint and licorice. A few hours later, the wine had developed into a classic beauty with slender lines, firm structure and a sparkle of brilliant acidity. The oak is integrated to the point of invisibility, the tannins are elegant and fine and the acidity is that proverbial cherry on top.
