About the Wine
With only three winemakers in their 50-year history, Silver Oak maintains one singular goal with each vintage: to make their best bottle yet of Silver Oak Cabernet Sauvignon.

From Justin Meyer to Daniel Baron, and continuing today with Nate Weis, all three Silver Oak winemakers were viticulturists first, ensuring a focus on the vineyard that results in wines of low alcohol, crisp acidity and structured tannins that reflect California’s finest growing regions. In the cellar, the winemakers insist on laser-like consistency in all their wines, both technically and stylistically. In the vineyard and cellar, Silver Oak's goal is relentless improvement at every step of the winemaking process, from the leading edge design of the wineries to a tenured winemaking team.

No detail has escaped the winemaking team’s attention, from the orientation of the building and location of the crush pad to the workflow of the fermentation room, the choice of barrel-washing equipment and size and placement of tanks. Everything they do is meticulously and systematically chosen to bring you the finest juice, consistantly, year-after-year.

Making wines that are drinkable upon release has been part of Silver Oak philosophy from the very beginning. This means allowing the wines nearly five years of graceful maturation in both barrel and bottle to ensure all components have time to harmonize. Bottling wines longer than almost any other California winery, that’s why the “current” vintage of Silver Oak is nearly always 1-2 years older than other wineries’ releases.

Silver Oak takes on this extra step so you don’t have to. When you open a bottle of Silver Oak, you know that it is perfectly aged and ready to enjoy. Even so, because the style of their Cabernets is more about finesse and elegance at moderate alcohol levels, Silver Oak wines are capable of extended aging for 25 years and beyond.

Tasting Notes:
Aged in 50% new and 50% second-use American Oak from the Duncan family's The Oak cooperage in Higbee, Missouri. Petite Verdot at a ratio of 0.4%, is co-fermented with the Cabernet Sauvignon, intended to bring focus to the Cabernet fruit. A compelling, brooding, muscular rendition of Cabernet from Alexander Valley with gorgeous boysenberry notes, black currants, and rose petals laced with vanillin notes and toasty oak. Medium to full-bodied with black currants, ripe blackberry and black cherry notes framed by velvety tannins laced with that irresistible vanillin note. Toasty oak spices lend a hint of sweetness, balanced by grippy acidity. Long and complex, revealing umami, garrigue, and crushed slatestone on the finish. It's a terrific wine from the Alexander Valley.
