Review 2021 Domaine Sylvain Bzikot Bourgogne Cote d Or Chardonnay 750ml
About the Wine
Puligny's Quiet Underdog
Located in the village of Puligny, Sylvain and Beatrice Bzikot (pronounced BZee-cot) have stayed under the radar in the US despite owning an impressive 15 hectares in the Cotes de Beaune, most of which is located in Puligny. For a long time, most of the crop was sold in bulk to the Burgundy negociants but since the 1990s Sylvain has gradually taken back bottling at the domaine. The estate’s delicious Bourgogne Chardonnay is made from vines within the commune of Puligny, just outside the appellation border.
I was truly excited to get an opportunity to taste this top-notch Bourgogne Producer's Lineup. The wines from Sylvain Bzikot, we've come to the discover, are purely sensational.
An amazing story not typical of Burgundy! The Bzikot family are Polish emigrants whom arrived in Puligny just before World War II with nothing but their clothes on. From those very humble beginnings working in various domaines of Burgundy, this family has managed to acquire an impressive domaine of 4ha of some of the best vineyards in the village of Puligny- Montrachet. With minimal intervention in the vineyards and cellar, Sylvain Bzikot produces wines that are at one ripe and rich, yet elegant and complex. Affable and fun-loving, he is one of the underground wine making stars of the region.
TASTING NOTES:
Bright and lifted aromas of lemon, green apple, and peach. Crisp and clean on the palate with zippy acidity that fuses with further citrus fruit and mineral, white pepper spice and a touch of roundness.
