Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1993 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford's appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Located in the Sonoma County town of Forestville, the winery is about 15 miles from the cool Pacific Coast.
Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of vineyard sources, the limited production of the bottlings and the varietals used. “Character through adversity” is an expression that undoubtedly applies to people and grapevines and surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both.
Land’s Edge Pinot Noir is sourced from two Estate owned Vineyards: Far Coast Vineyard and the Estate owned Seascape Vineyard. These vineyards are located high on the Sonoma Coast Ridges that run along the "land's edge" and the Pacific Ocean. The Far Coast Vineyard is the predominant component of Land’s Edge – typically making up 90% or more of the blend. Far Coast imparts to the blend aromas of Mocha to the nose, and a deep black cherry profile, while the Seascape Vineyard part of the blend adds savory notes along with hints of salinity to the Land’s Edge Vineyards cuvee.
Tasting Notes:
Opening with aromas of red and black cherry, pomegranate, and dried rose petal this voluptuously deep red pinot developes into layered flavors of dark berries, plum and licorice. The mid-palate exhibits an elegant and polished texture. Ending with a medium-long finish showing mocha and mineral character.
