Jaclynn Renée Wines was started by a passion for winemaking and hard work. Native Texan Jackie van Sant Downes moved out to Sonoma County from Texas to start her wine career in 2007, and in 2013 she made her dream a reality by starting her own brand. She focuses on the finest quality Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Rosé from some of the best growing regions in the world, the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast, and is fortunate to source prestigious fruit from Bacigalupi and Robert’s Road Vineyards.
"My objective is to make extraordinary, balanced, and food-friendly wines from some of the best fruit in Sonoma County with little intervention, letting the fruit shine from vine to bottle."
- Jaclynn van Sant Downes
The Bacigalupi family has been farming grapes in the heart of the Russian River Valley for over 50 years. Located off the famed Westside Road just west of the town of Healdsburg, the Bacigalupi vineyard has become known for consistently producing world class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Zinfandel.
The Pinot Noir grapes are grown in soils, varying from rocky red clays to well-drained rocky volcanic loams. There is a small block beside the Russian River, but most the vineyards are planted in the rolling hills to the west. The combination of the soil structure and the hillsides provide for optimal growing conditions. Six distinct pinot noir clones are grown on approximately 44 acres. In this specific example, they use Wente and Pommard clones which we feel perfectly complement each other in a Single Vineyard blend.
Tasting Notes:
This sophisticated Pinot Noir is lifted with notes of dark plum, tea leaves, cinnamon, and vanilla on the nose. The palate is expressive and medium-bodied with a burst of fresh red berry fruit and cola berry. It finishes with bright acidity, balanced tannins, and a lengthy, seamless finish.
