About the Wine

Shea Wine Cellars in Newberg, Oregon, was founded in 1996 by Dick and Deirdre Shea. The couple had been farming grapes and selling them to wineries, but decided to make their own wine. Their debut wine was the 1996 vintage and today they still make only about 5,500 cases a year. Shea makes several Pinot Noirs and Chardonnay. The 200-acre property is in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, and 75% of the grapes produced there still go to winemakers in Oregon and California.

Shea vineyard sits on sedimentary soil over fractured sandstone. Vine spacing is 5×7 yielding 1,245 plants per acre. Shea was one of the early vineyards in this area of Yamhill County and on this soil type.

The same fruit from Block 33's 100% Dijon 777 clone goes into wines produced by 00 and Purple Hands.

TASTING NOTES:
Pouring a youthful red/ruby hue, Revel Pinot Noir offers wonderful clarity and ripeness in the glass, with notes of black raspberries and candied flowers. Elegant all the way through the palate, this medium-bodied red offers highly refined tannins, with even acidity, a soft, stony mouthfeel, and a lovely, tapering finish. It's a highly appealing wine now and is going to continue to improve if given time.
