Dating back to the 13th century the Mauritiushof was originally used by monks to collect the grapes. Since 1799 the building has belonged to the Gritsch family who started the tradition of wine pressing. Today this heritage stands as a commitment for the future to cultivate this tradition.
The Wachau with the mighty quiet Danube and the steep terraced vineyards are hard work and much can only be done by hand – from pruning to harvesting. But: the hard work pays off. For example, when on a fall day one is up in the vineyard and the evening sun lights up the Danube and reflects it in the leaves of the vines. It goes without saying that tradition, old values and traditional knowledge play a major role in the FJ Gritsch winery. But it is also clear that tradition alone is not enough to achieve today’s top quality. That is why everything is always in motion at the FJ Gritsch winery.
