1978 Leoville Las Cases and 2003 Hubert Lingier, What a treat!
Last nights standout lineup. The 03 Hubert Lingier Morey st Denis 1er la Riotte was a standout for me with elegant red cherries sprinkled with chocolate dust and serves over a bed of white flowers. With 17 years of age I thought this wine was drinking in the perfect window.
It was my@first time tasting the 95 Bel Air Dubois Challon, and while the wine was very impressive it lacked the real depth that I would expect from some of the more renowned vineyards. The wine still showed extensive earthy notes with dried red and black fruit, cigar wrapping, and shaved pencils.
The 1978 Leoville Las Cases was nearing the end of its life but showed absolutely fantastic yesterday. Within 20 minutes of opening the wine was extremely fragrant with notes of potpourri, dried plums, graphite, and old leather. While the palate was a bit thin, revealing the age of the wine, I found it still pleasant and complex. A long finish was the crowing jewel full of dried flowers and tilled earth.
