1982 Dom Perignon Steals the Show!!
Is there any question that aged Dom Perignon is the best wine in the world...? Not in my mind! The 1982 Dom Perignon from last night was a absolute stunner. Gobs of honey with crumbled toffee layered with butterscotch and a touch of baked apple. This wine was viscous on the palate while still retaining a decent acidity and beautiful mineral notes.
I was very impressed with the 1989 Beychevelle as well. This fourth growth from st Julian was on the precipitous of perfect drinkability. The fruit was still firm while on the edge of moving twists the more dried fruit you find with aged Bordeaux. The tannin was soft while still being present enough for balance. And the texture was perfectly in sync giving me layers of velvet with crumbled chocolate chips and earthy goodness. If you have any drink then today!
