A Few Treats From The Weekend...
We popped a couple of great wines over the weekend. The 89 Cos was unfortunately heat damaged, but the 89 Ducru Beaucaillou was right on. Showing notes of campfire, and warm earth after a spring rain. The fruit was initially hidden behind the more earthy aromas but after a hour in the glass we got a peek at the shy red cherry and blackberry that this wine is known for.
The 2008 Dal Forno Amarone was still a baby and needed 4 hours in the decanter to really come to life. Dried rose petals, massive black cherry, and boysenberry were on the nose and palate. The high alcohol was balanced with a tinge of sweetness like a high wire preforming between two skyscrapers.
Last but not least was the Napa powerhouse, 2016 Tusk. This newest release from one of the top wineries in California filled the entire room with fruity aromas as soon as the cork came out. The palate was plush, like a velvet pillow, while still harboring well balanced tannins on the back end. While this wine is a treat anytime or is opened I would like to give it another 5-8 years before I try it again...
