Some Great Wines on Hump day
I just got a new cellar in and I wanted to try some of the wines to make sure everything tasted as good as it looked. I invited over a few friends and we popped a 2004 Leroy Vosne Romanee and a 1997 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet.
The 04 Leroy is a favorite of mine! This is a really special wine. In 2004 Madam Leroy declassified all of her Grand Cru and 1er vineyards into her village level wines. So needless to say, this is one of the best bottles of Vosne Romanee wines you will ever have in your life! 1997 Dunn Howell Mountain is a classic and is finally coming into its own. It could still use another 5 or more years in the bottle, but that sure didn't stop me as I was pulling the cork!
Tasting Notes
2004 Leroy Vosne Romanee: A killer nose of rose petals, violets, and strawberries. So incredibly silky and elegant this wine was readily approachable even as a pop and pour. This was a stunner on the palate with truffle and Asian five spice just. Incredibly delicate and balanced I couldn't keep my hands off the bottle and we probably drank the whole thing in 30 min or less... One of the best young burgundies I have had this year.
1997 Dunn Howell Mountain Cabernet: If I were to blind this bottle I would call it an older left bank Bordeaux all day... The wine showed sweet raspberry and bright red cherry with a slight note of boysenberry and gravel. Notes of toasted vanilla bean and dried herbs linger in the background. Stunning!
